SingTel on Friday denied knowledge of an exploding iPhone that made headlines earlier this week.

Mr Z.M. Ong told reporters that sparks and smoke came out of his father's iPhone 4 while it was being charged in his home. The phone then gave out a loud exploding sound before blacking out, the 35-year-old said.

The one-year-old phone was replaced by SingTel for free, he told Today newspaper. However, SingTel said it was unaware of the case.

A spokesman for the telco said: 'SingTel does not have a record of the incident or the handset exchange that was reported in the media. We cannot comment further because the owner of the handset has not provided contact details for follow-up.'
