Local transport provider SMRT on Friday launched its very own iPhone application, which promises to make journey planning 'a real ease'.

SMRTConnect, which can be downloaded free from the Apple App Store, is only available for the iPhone now, though SMRT says the Android app will be made available later this year.

The app allows users to access information on all bus and train services across the SMRT network while keeping up-to-date with any train service updates. Users can also check train arrival times, search bus stop location or book an SMRT taxi through the application.

SMRT's new app will also enable commuters to shop on the go. Equipped with a QR code reader, the app user simply has to scan the QR code on poster advertisements to start shopping instantly.
