OCBC Securities hit by technical glitch, halts trading for 3 hours
Power failure breaks firm's link to SGX
Trading ground to a halt at OCBC Securities for nearly three hours on Thursday morning in one of the worst technical glitches to hit the local share market in five years.
The firm lost its connection to the Singapore Exchange's computer dealing system after a power failure at SingTel's data facility which hosts OCBC Securities' server.
That meant its brokers could not place buy and sell orders from 9am - a major disruption for them, given the rush of sell orders as prices swung up at opening bell.
Internet trading at Lim & Tan Securities was disrupted as well, as one of its computer servers is on the same floor as the OCBC Securities one.
