MinLaw to stop sexual history being used against rape victims
The Ministry of Law intends to repeal Section 157(d) of the Evidence Act - which allows a rape victim's sexual history to be used against the victim in court - as part of the upcoming round of amendments to the Act.
Law Minister K. Shanmugam announced this at the launch of Aware's Sexual Assault Befrienders' Service on Friday morning.
The minister said that Aware had made a submission to repeal the section during a consultation exercise, and that after looking into it, he felt that such 'repugnant views' should not find any expression in Singapore's laws.
