SMRT said preliminary investigations into Tuesday morning's disruption of Circle Line train services showed that it was due to a faulty cable located beneath the platform level at Dakota station.

'We are investigating what could have caused the fault and are checking through the system as a precaution,' SMRT said in its latest media statement released in the afternoon after services were fully restored by mid-morning.

About 26,600 passengers were affected by the incident. SMRT said that passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can file a claim for refund at the Passenger Service Centre in any of SMRT's 68 SMRT stations within the next three working days. SMRT also apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Service on all Circle Line stations between Dhoby Ghaut and Marymount stations were restored by 9.50am. Earlier, thousands of commuters were stranded when a power fault disrupted service on the MRT Circle Line from 5.30am. The disruption affected trains between Marymount and Dhoby Ghaut stations - that is, the stretch of the orbital line that opened for service a year ago - in both directions.
