STREET art will come alive at bus tops and MRT stations from Wednesday.
Winning art pieces from 'Youth for Transport' competition organised by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be displayed at bus stops and on street structures including the exteriors of three Circle Line stations: MacPherson, Mountbatten and Paya Lebar.
The competition was organised to celebrate the inaugural Youth Olympic Games that will be held in Singapore from Aug 14 to 26 and the art will go on display just in time to welcome visitors.
The most prominent display will be a 18 metre by 12 metre art piece that will be featured on the six-storey high Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) ventilation building off Nicoll Highway.
This competition drew more than 3,800 entries. Three professionals in the arts scene judged the entries.
Dr Ian Woo, one of the judges, has his works in the North East Line HarbourFront station under the 'Art in Transit' Programme by LTA.
Said Ms Karen Lim Li-Ching, a judge: 'The judges had a hard time selecting the winning entries, not just because of the sheer numbers but also because of the terrific display of creativity.'
The competition, which was held from April 30 to June 30, comprised three categories - Children, Youth and Open - with differing themes.
The winners will receive their prizes from LTA's Acting Chief Executive Lim Bok Ngam at a presentation ceremony to be held at the LTA Auditorium on Wednesday.
