MAINBOARD-listed Hyflux has unveiled expansion plans worth $120 million for its new global headquarters and a new membrance manufacturing facility, reflecting the thriving sector despite the recent economic recession.
The water treatment firm said in a statement issued late on Thursday that it will build a new global headquarters on a 1.7 ha site in Bendemeer to be called 'Hyflux Innovation Centre'.
'Being a dedicated nerve centre for design and R&D works, the Innovation Centre will provide more opportunities for our staff to be creative and innovative,' said group chief executive Olivia Lum in a statement.
When completed, the centre will house its design, research and development and commercialization units in a 32,000 sq m space.
It will spearhead the development of advanced membrane technologies in water and process treatment for both municipal and industrial applications, said Hyflux, who plans to raise the number of researchers in the Group from the current 200 to about 300.
At Hyflux's 20th anniversary celebrations at Suntec on Thursday night, Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang commended Hyflux for its 'plans for future expansion, even as companies hold back their investments during this economic slowdown'.
