SINGAPORE will soon have its first smart grid which will feature intelligent machines that speak to each other and enable consumers to monitor and optimise their power usage.
The Energy Market Authority (EMA) chief executive Lawrence Wong on Thursday launched a pilot project for an 'Intelligent Energy System' (IES).
The project will test a range of smart grid technologies to enhance the capabilities of Singapore's power grid infrastructure and signals a new era for smart energy systems in Singapore, said Mr Wong.
'With this pilot, we will lay the foundations for an even more intelligent energy system in Singapore. We will bring the capabilities of our power grid to the next level and ensure that our electricity infrastructure is ready for the future,' said Mr Wong at the Smart Grids 2009 Summit, held as part of the Singapore International Energy Week,
The EMA will be working on this project with various government agencies, including the Economic Development Board, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, the Housing & Development Board, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore and the National Environment Agency.
