A 27-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested for drink driving on Thursday night after her car collided into a taxi along Springleaf Road.
The taxi was travelling along Upper Thomson Road in the direction of Yio Chu Kang Road when it was hit at about 11.48 pm. The cabby complained of neck pain and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested the woman driver after she failed the breathalyser test administered. An analyser test later showed that her breath contained 107 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres, significantly exceeding the legally prescribed limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.
Traffic Police remind all motorists that drink driving is a very serious offence and the penalties are severe.
Drink drivers, on conviction, will be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months, which would, in effect, invalidate their driving licence. In addition, first-time offenders can be fined between $1,000 and $5,000 or jailed up to six months, while repeat offenders may be punished with a maximum fine of $30,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to three years.
Commander Traffic Police, Deputy Assistant Commissioner (DAC) Christopher Ng said: 'Motorists who drink and drive are very irresponsible. If you drink, don't drive. Do not let your night of fun and enjoyment result in a life of guilt and regret.'
