SAN JOSE - POLICE investigating allegations that an armed bodyguard working for supermodel Gisele Bundchen and American football star Tom Brady fired at at photographers covering the celebrity couple's wedding took one person into custody in the case on Thursday.

An AFP reporter witnessed the police operation, in which a half-dozen officers raided the Avahuer security company, charged with overseeing the April 4 wedding, and detained one person.

AFP photographer Yuri Cortez and Rolando Aviles, a freelancer working for Costa Rican daily Al Dia, were covering the couple's after-wedding party from outside Bundchen's vacation home in Costa Rica when the incident occurred.

According to a lawsuit filed by AFP and the photographers in September, Cortez and Aviles were forced to drive to the Bundchen property where they refused demands from bodyguards that they turn over their cameras and memory cards.

As they drove off, 'one of the Brady/Bundchen bodyguards opened fire with pistols and shot at Cortez and Aviles,' the suit said.

The bullet shattered the rear window of the vehicle and 'narrowly missed striking the heads of Cortez and Aviles'. The lawsuit, filed in a US District Court in New York, accuses the New England Patriots quarterback and his Brazilian-born wife of 'negligence and carelessness' and seeks US$1 million (S$1.4 million) in damages. -- AFP
