NEW ORLEANS (Louisiana) - TROPICAL storm Ida bore down on the US Gulf coast Tuesday, with weakened force after cutting a swath of destruction that left 136 dead in Central America.

Ida was 95 kilometers southwest of Mobile, Alabama at 09:00 Tuesday, moving north at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour with sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida said.

 
College backs off on mini ban

Anti-Holocaust bishop appeals

BERLIN - AN ULTRACONSERVATIVE British bishop who was fined 12,000 euro (S$23,358) in Germany for denying the Holocaust has appealed the fine, his lawyer said Tuesday.

Matthias Lossmann said that the bishop, Richard Williamson, 'objected to the fine, which means there will be a trial.' A spokesman for the Regensburg court that issued the fine, Thomas Koch, said the court is currently examining the appeal, a routine procedure.
