DUBAI - IF IT were in a position to do so, Al-Qaeda would use Pakistan's nuclear weapons in its fight against the United States, a top leader of the group said in remarks aired on Sunday.

Pakistan has been battling Al-Qaeda's Taleban allies in the Swat Valley since April after their thrust into a district 100 km northwest of the capital raised fears the nuclear-armed country could slowly slip into militant hands.

 
Cops seek restaurant killers

ALBUQUERQUE (New Mexico) - ALBUQUERQUE police on Sunday were looking for at least two men who they believe helped commit an armed robbery that turned deadly at a packed restaurant.

Two suspects were arrested within minutes of the crime on Saturday on suspicion of murder, kidnapping, robbery and child abuse because there were at least five children in the restaurant, Albuquerque Officer Nadine Hamby said.

Palin brushes off criticism

ANCHORAGE (Alaska) - ALASKA Governor Sarah Palin says her political enemies are abusing state law with a flurry of frivolous ethics complaints against her, putting her more than US$500,000 (S$727,000) in legal debt.

Those filing the grievances - there have been at least 18 cases so far - say it's their legal right to hold the Republican governor accountable for what they see as abuses of power.

Craigslist killer indicted

BOSTON - A FORMER medical student accused of killing a 25-year-old masseuse he met through Craigslist has been indicted by a grand jury.

Philip Markoff's indictment on charges of first-degree murder and other crimes moves his case from district court to Superior Court, where he is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday. The indictments were returned late on Thursday and announced on Sunday.
