WASHINGTON - PRESIDENT Barack Obama paid tribute on Thursday to the memory of Jews murdered in the Holocaust and said it is the duty of the living all over the world to end such atrocities forever.

Speaking at a Holocaust Days of Remembrance ceremony at the US Capitol, Mr Obama warned against what he called the dangers of silence.

 
Teacher jailed for student sex

LEXINGTON (Nebraska) - A FORMER teacher who fled to Mexico from Nebraska with a 13-year-old student has been sentenced to eight to 10 years in prison.

Kelsey Peterson's sentence on Thursday in Dawson County District Court comes after she pleaded guilty in January to two counts of first-degree sexual assault of a minor.

Uni gets mysterious $15m gift

EAST LANSING (Michigan) - AN ANNOYMOUS donor is giving Michigan State University US$10 million (S$15 million).

The university announced the donation on Thursday.

Qaeda boss captured, 73 killed

BAGHDAD - THE Iraqi military announced the capture on Thursday of the man said to be the head of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, as at least 73 people were killed in bombings on the deadliest day in Iraq in 14 months.

'Abu Omar al-Baghdadi was arrested today in Baghdad,' the capital's security spokesman Major General Qassim Atta told reporters.
