PHOENIX - THE man convicted of killing six people in serial shooting attacks in Phoenix that left the city on edge has been sentenced to two life terms, just days after being sentenced to death for the most serious charges.

A jury on Friday gave Dale Hausner six death sentences for six murder convictions.

 
French mass graves uncovered

PARIS - ARCHAEOLOGISTS in northern France have stumbled upon two mass graves dating back to the years of civil strife unleashed after the French Revolution of 1789, officials said on Monday.

Located in a park in the city of Le Mans, the graves contain the bodies of some 30 people including several women, two male teenagers and a child, the INRA archaeology institute said in a statement.

Earthquake hits California

MORGAN HILL (California) - A MODERATE earthquake rattled parts of Northern California's Silicon Valley on Monday, and there were no immediate reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey said the temblor had a preliminary magnitude of 4.3.

77 added to journo memorial

WASHINGTON - The US journalism and free speech museum called the Newseum added 77 names to its Journalists Memorial on Monday to honour reporters, photographers and broadcasters who died while covering the news, including several killed in Mexican drug violence.

Mexico ranked second only to Iraq among the deadliest places for journalists last year, said Alberto Ibarguen, the Newseum's chairman.
