ROME - AN archaeological dig near Venice has unearthed the 16th-century remains of a woman with a brick stuck between her jaws - evidence, experts say, that she was believed to be a vampire.

The unusual burial is thought to be the result of an ancient vampire-slaying ritual.

 
Obama ends 'enemy combatant'

WASHINGTON - THE Obama administration is abandoning one of President George W. Bush's key phrases in the war on terrorism: enemy combatant In court filings on Friday, the Justice Department said it will no longer use the term to justify holding prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

Mr Obama still asserts the military's authority to hold detainees at the US naval base in Cuba.

Madoff lawyers files appeal

NEW YORK - WALL Street fraudster Bernard Madoff's lawyers have filed an appeal against the decision to revoke his bail, a US appeals court said on Friday.

A hearing date on the appeal is currently been considered, said a spokeswoman for the second circuit US Court of Appeals in New York.
