WASHINGTON - US PRESIDENT Barack Obama was on Monday to wipe out another contentious aspect of his predecessor George W. Bush's legacy by removing curbs on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

The president was to sign an executive order reversing a policy that critics say has hampered the fight into finding treatments for grave diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes, an administration official said.

 
Auschwitz is 'a type of beer'

LONDON - HUNDREDS of British school children believe Auschwitz is the name of a beer, religious festival or type of bread instead of the infamous Nazi death camp, a survey revealed on Monday.

More than 1000 high school students aged between 11 and 16 were asked what they knew about Auschwitz, where about 1.3 million people died during World War II.

'Swiss Gigolo' jailed 6 yrs

MUNICH - A SMOOTH-talking con man known as the 'Swiss Gigolo' was jailed for six years on Monday for cheating and blackmailing a string of super-rich lovers, including Germany's wealthiest woman.

Helg Sgarbi, 44, admitted as his trial opened in Munich 'the essence' of the charges against him, which included trying to hoodwink BMW heiress Susanne Klatten out of more than 340 million euros (S$666 million).

Octomum's 2nd publicist quits

UNITED STATES - NADYA Suleman, controversial mother of octuplets, has had her second publicist quit.

Victor Munoz, announced on Monday, that he had quit working for Ms Suleman, saying "This woman is nuts."
