WASHINGTON - PRESIDENT George W. Bush mounted a defiant and emotional defense of his 'good, strong record' on Monday, rejecting criticism of his 'war on terror' tactics and policy in Iraq and on the economy.

In his last formal news conference before ceding power to Barack Obama on January 20, Mr Bush highlighted the 'troop surge' in Iraq and his efforts to rescue the US economy as it slumped into the worst recession since the 1930s.

 
Gaza war in cyberspace

JERUSALEM - ISRAEL and Hamas have taken their war into cyberspace, with the Israeli army showing strikes on 'terrorists' on YouTube and the Islamists rolling out Paltube to expose 'massacres' in Gaza.

With both sides restricting access to combat areas to reporters, each has sought to gain the upper hand in the battle for public opinion of a war that's taking place far from the eyes of cameras.

UK hacker offers guilty plea

LONDON - A BRITISH man accused of hacking into US military computers is offering to plead guilty to a criminal charge in Britain to avoid extradition to the United States, his lawyer said on Monday.
