LONDON - A BRITISH tribunal ruled on Tuesday that radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada, once described as Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe, should return to jail, after finding he breached his bail terms.

The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) was told that Qatada, who was on a 22-hour curfew until being arrested last month, had plotted to leave Britain.

 
Mistaken killing not unlawful

LONDON - JURORS at an inquest into death of an innocent Brazilian mistakenly shot by police in an anti-terror operation cannot rule he was killed unlawfully, a coroner said on Tuesday.

The former High Court judge overseeing the London inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes told the jury that they can only reach a verdict of lawful killing or an 'open verdict.'

Obama turns to economy

CHICAGO - BARACK Obama was turning his attention back to the country's economic crisis on Tuesday at a meeting with state governors, a day after introducing a strong-willed national security team headed by former rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and Bush administration holdover Robert Gates.

With the announcements on Monday, Mr Obama has finished naming the highest profile members of his administration seven weeks before taking office.

Somalia can't stop piracy alone

NAIROBI - THE Somali prime minister says his country has been torn apart by a long civil war and cannot stop piracy alone.

Nur Hassan Hussein says the piracy problem 'is part of the legacy of the situation of the country. This 18 years of civil war is followed by disorder.'
