Obama to meet McCain

CHICAGO - PRESIDENT-ELECT Barack Obama's transition office says the Democrat will meet with vanquished Republican rival John McCain on Monday.

In announcing the meeting, Obama spokesman Stephanie Cutter said the pair will 'discuss ways to work together' to improve the quality of government and services to the people.

US extends visa free travel

BRUSSELS - CITIZENS from six European countries will be able to travel to the United States without visas from next week and people from other EU nations could join them this year, US officials said on Friday.

'On Monday the 17th, citizens from seven additional countries, six of which are members of the European Union, will be eligible to travel for the first time under the visa waiver programme,' said a US Homeland Security envoy.

Presidential terms extended

MOSCOW - RUSSIA'S parliament on Friday approved constitutional changes extending the length of presidential terms, a move opponents said could lead to the return of Vladimir Putin to the presidency.
