WASHINGTON - THE White House said on Saturday it believed there was common ground between the European Union and United States on reform of the world financial system ahead of a summit in Washington next week.

'We believe there is a great deal of common ground among our approaches to address the turmoil in the financial markets,' said spokeman Dana Perino after EU leaders agreed their approach at a summit on Friday in Brussels.

 
Obama win a US 'triumph'

WASHINGTON - OUTGOING US President George W. Bush on Saturday hailed successor Barack Obama's election win as a 'triumph' in US history and promised to smooth his way into the White House.

'Our citizens have chosen a president who represents a triumph of the American story - a testament to hard work, optimism, and faith in the enduring promise of our nation,' he said in his weekly radio address.

90-yr-old living with 3 bodies

EVANSTON (Illinois) - POLICE in a Chicago suburb say a 90-year-old woman apparently has been living in a house with the bodies of three siblings - one of whom may have been dead since the early 1980s.

Evanston police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says the bodies were found on Friday after authorities were called by a senior advocate.

Another oil output cut?

ALGIER - CURRENT Opec president Chakib Khelil refused on Saturday to rule out another cut in the cartel's output if the price of crude oil remains below US$70 (S$104.80) per barrel before an Opec meeting in Dec.

'We have always said that our objective is US$70 to US$80 a barrel,' Mr Khelil, who is also Algeria's energy minister, told an energy industry seminar in Algiers.
