BEIJING - APPLE Inc's local partner has sold 5,000 iPhones since the smart phone's formal weekend debut in China, a lacklustre start after analysts warned the company might be setting prices too high.

China Unicom Ltd chairman Lu Yimin told shareholders on Tuesday in Hong Kong that iPhone sales had 'passed 5,000' as of that day, said Mr Zhang Xinnian, director of investor relations for the company's Hong Kong arm.

 
X-ray is top achievement

LONDON - THE X-ray was named the most important modern scientific achievement Wednesday in a poll conducted for Britain's Science Museum, beating Apollo spacecraft and DNA.

Nearly 50,000 members of the public voted in the museum or online on 10 of the greatest achievements in science, technology and engineering selected by the museum curators.

Rainwater is safe to drink

SYDNEY - DRINKING untreated rainwater is safe for your health, according to a study by researchers at Melbourne's Monash University.

300 homes that used rainwater collected in water tanks as a primary drinking source were given a benchtop filter and were told that it would remove any potential gastroenteritis-causing organisms from their water, but half of the devices did not contain filters.
