OSLO - THE world's first floating full-scale offshore wind turbine has been inaugurated in the North Sea off the coast of Norway, Norwegian energy giant StatoilHydro said on Tuesday.

 
More noise to protect blind

TOKYO - AN APPEAL of a hybrid or electric car is its super-quiet drive. But worries are growing blind people may be endangered by their silence.

The Japanese government has set up a panel with automakers, organisations for the blind and consumers groups to come up with a solution, which could have such vehicles emitting what sounds like engine noise or musical sounds like a cell-phone ring-tone, officials said on Tuesday.

Brazil buys French jets

PARIS - FRANCE'S Rafale fighter jet, which sought foreign buyers for a decade until Brazil agreed on a deal on Monday, is a versatile plane flying bombing missions in Afghanistan.

Built by French aircraft maker Dassault Aviation, the 50 million euro (S$102 million) Rafale was created to replace seven types of jets including the Mirage when it rolled out of factories in 1998.
