MADRID - UNESCO has put two natural sites, a coral reef in Belize and a national park in Colombia, on its list of endangered world heritage, a statement issued Saturday said.

 
Drug may raise cancer risk

LONDON - SANOFi-AVENTIS'S diabetes drug Lantus may increase the risk of cancer, according to European studies involving some 300,000 insulin-treated patients, prompting a call from experts for more research.

The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), which released details online of four studies from its journal Diabetologia, said they were 'far from conclusive but they do indicate the need for further investigation of this issue'.

Game Gear-phone hybrid?

TOKYO - SONY Corp is considering developing a cellphone-game gear hybrid in a bid to better compete with Apple Inc's highly popular iPod and iPhone, the Nikkei business daily said on Saturday.

The Japanese electronics and entertainment conglomerate launched its first Walkman three decades ago, dominating the portable music player market, but it has been running far behind the iPod and iPhone in recent years.

'Human rights software'

OTTAWA - SOFTWARE developed by a Canadian lab to circumvent online censorship has been downloaded by more than 18,000 Iranians in the last 10 days, says its developer Rafal Rohozinski.

A thirst for online freedom in Iran, as well as in China, Myanmar and other authoritarian hotspots, has led to a sudden proliferation of all technologies designed to overcome curbs on news and social networking Internet sites.
