RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK (North Carolina) - GLAXOSMITHKLINE, the world's second-largest drugmaker, said Friday it has boosted production of antiviral medication as the US government reported two dozen additional cases of swine flu.

The London-based company said it is ramping up operations to be able to produce about 5 million packs of Relenza per month, but it will take 12 to 14 weeks to get to that level.

White House now twittering

WASHINGTON - THE White House took a major leap into the Web 2.0 world on Friday, launching pages on social networks MySpace and Facebook and sending its first 'tweets' on hot micro-blogging service Twitter.

Content from President Barack Obama's website WhiteHouse.gov is being fed in real time to White House profile pages on MySpace and Facebook and members of the communities can sign up as Facebook 'fans' or MySpace 'friends.'

Flu could have started in US

WASHINGTON - A US health official on Saturday did not rule out the possibility that the A(H1N1) influenza virus outbreak may have originated in California.

Several cases of infection were reported in California before the outbreak in Mexico, the epicentre of the swine flu outbreak, where the government has confirmed 427 cases of the disease as well as 16 deaths.
