SAN FRANCISCO - NEARLY one in 10 US children who play videogames may be growing addicted to the pastime, according to US research released Monday.

A study released by the National Institute on Media and the Family at Iowa State University drew comparisons to compulsive gambling, concluding some children lie, borrow money from friends, or dodge work to play videogames.

 
Digital Tolkien arrives

NEW YORK - A MAJOR new name has been added to the digital library: J.R.R. Tolkien.

E-versions of the late author's multimillion-selling 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy were released on Monday.

Euro telescopes launch delayed

PARIS - THE launch of two large European telescopes designed to probe the origin of galaxies and the Big Bang, originally set for May 6, has been postponed, the European Space Agency (ESA) said on Monday.

'Due to an anomaly discovered during tests on a subassembly identical to the one on the Ariane 5 launcher, Arianespace has decided to carry out additional checks,' the agency said in a press release.
