WASHINGTON - MICRO-blogging service Twitter was targeted by a wave of attacks by a computer worm over Easter weekend, a co-founder of the Web messaging company said.

'On a weekend normally reserved for bunnies, a worm took center stage,' Biz Stone said in a post on the official blog of the San Francisco-based startup.

 
eBay buys stake in auction site

SEOUL (South Korea) - EBay Inc. will purchase a substantial stake in the operator of a leading South Korean online marketplace, a news report said on Monday.

Lava may harm wildlife

QUITO (Ecuador) - Ecuador officials say a volcano is erupting in the Galapagos Islands and could harm unique wildlife.

The Galapagos National Park says La Cumbre volcano began spewing lava, gas and smoke on uninhabited Fernandina Island on Saturday after four years of inactivity.

Low-tech tools cause sabotage

SAN FRANCISCO - FORGET, for a moment, computer viruses and sophisticated cybercrimes. A hacksaw and a few other tools were probably all it took for someone to sever eight fibre-optic cables in Silicon Valley this week, knocking out cell phone, landline and Internet service.

The attack was a reminder of the fragility of the telecommunications networks that are increasingly important in our lives. Yet physical sabotage of the networks is extremely rare, and far overshadowed by natural disasters like hurricanes. Security experts were unable to recall a similar incident.
