CAPE CANAVERAL - THE US company that has arranged for six tourists to fly in space said on Friday it is staying open for business despite the economic crisis and a lack of confirmed flight opportunities.

Space Adventures has been setting up flights aboard Russian Soyuz capsules when there are spare seats available.

 
Wanted, new spy satellites

WASHINGTON - THE national intelligence director and defence secretary are asking the Obama administration to approve a new top-secret spy satellite program that could cost more than US$10 billion (S$15 billion) , according to US government, military and industry officials.

The program calls for building two sophisticated satellites equal to or better than the huge, high-resolution secret satellites now in orbit.

PARIS - A WOMAN who ate a grapefruit each day almost had to have her leg amputated because of a dangerous blood clot, according to an unusual case study reported in the Lancet.

Emergency doctors in Olympia, in the US Pacific coast state of Washington, treated the 42-year-old woman in November 2008 after she was admitted with shortness of breath, dizziness and difficulty walking.
