LONDON - BRITAIN'S top doctor warns that children under 15 should never be given alcohol - even in small amounts.

The government's chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, issued that guidance Thursday based on medical research showing the damage alcohol can do to children.

 
Dogs cloned successfully

SEOUL - A SOUTH Korean bio-engineering company on Thursday claimed a world first, saying it has successfully cloned dogs using stem cells derived from fat tissue.

All-round flu vaccine?

TOKYO - RESEARCHERS in Japan said on Thursday they had developed a flu vaccine that works against multiple viruses and could prevent a deadly pandemic of bird flu mutations.

The research team has tested the vaccine on mice implanted with human genes, confirming that it works even if flu viruses mutate, according to Tetsuya Uchida, researcher at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Google out to expose chokers

SAN FRANCISCO - GOOGLE on Wednesday began offering tools to expose Internet service providers (ISPs) that choke traffic or shift users into slow lanes while allowing others to zip along at high speeds.

The online search and advertising king is an unabashed champion of 'net neutrality' in which all Internet traffic is treated equally instead of letting service providers give preferential treatment to privileged clients.
