TOKYO - A GROUP of Japanese journalists, professors and lawyers demanded on Friday that the US Internet search giant Google scrap its 'Street View' service in Japan, saying it violates people's privacy.

Google launched Street View in the United States last year, providing pictures of panoramic all-around street-level views at locations on its online maps.

 
Man jailed for sending spam

A HONG Kong businessman, who sent tens of millions of unwanted e-mails to manipulate stock prices, pleaded guilty this week.

How Wai John Hui, 50, a resident of Hong Kong and Vancouver, was one of 11 people indicted early this year for trying to artificially pump up Chinese stock prices. He is the third to confess.

Commercial spaceport okayed

WASHINGTON - THE US Federal Aviation Administration has given the green light for the world's first commercial spaceport, New Mexico authorities said on Thursday.

The FAA granted Spaceport America a license for vertical and horizontal space launches following an environmental impact study, according to the New Mexico Space Authority (NMSA).

Japan's first solar cargo ship

TOKYO - THE world's first cargo ship partly propelled by solar power took to the seas on Friday in Japan, aiming to cut fuel costs and carbon emissions when automakers ship off their exports.

Auriga Leader, a freighter developed by shipping line Nippon Yusen K.K. and oil distributor Nippon Oil Corp, took off from a shipyard in the western city of Kobe, officials of the two firms said.
