WASHINGTON - GOOGLE is putting the power of the Web to work in tracking the onset of influenza in the United States, tracking patterns in search queries to determine the spread of the disease.

 
Republicans turn to Web

WASHINGTON - FRESH off a US presidential election defeat and further losses in Congress, the Republican Party launched a new website on Tuesday asking members for their ideas on its future.

'We are a party of principles and must regain our voice,' Republican National Committee chairman Robert Duncan said in a statement announcing the creation of the website, RepublicanForAReason.com.

From tequila to diamonds

MEXICO CITY - MEXICAN scientists have turned the country's national tipple tequila into diamonds, and are seeking applications for their discovery, with the crystals too small to be used in jewellery.

The tequila diamonds could be used to 'detect radiation, coat cutting tools or, above all, as a substitute for silicon in the computer chips of the future,' Mr Miguel Apatiga, one of three researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico who made the discovery this summer, told wires agencies on Tuesday.

Fave music = happy heart

WASHINGTON - LISTENING to your favourite music may be helpful to maintaining a healthy heart, according to a study published on Tuesday.

The research team at the University of Maryland School of Medicine announced they had shown for the first time the emotions aroused by music enjoyed by the listener to be beneficial to a healthy blood vessel function.
