TOKYO - SONY Corp aims to launch next year a new online service that will allow people to download content such as music and movies to their televisions and other electronic gadgets, a top executive said on Friday.

The move is part of chief executive Howard Stringer's goal of converging Sony's strengths in electronics, such as Bravia televisions and PlayStation game consoles, and content generated by its movie studio and music label.

 
Can't silence bloggers

TBILISI (Azerbaijan) - EUROPE'S main security and rights body cautioned Azerbaijan on Friday it cannot silence the 'new generation of free-thinkers' in the oil-producing former Soviet republic after the jailing of two opposition bloggers.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has joined the Council of Europe and a string of international human rights groups in condemning the jailing last week of Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli for 24 and 30 months.

Poll reveals sexual ignorance

LONDON - MORE than one in 10 British people don't realise that a woman can still get pregnant if she has sex standing up, according to a poll on Friday.

Nearly one in five - 19 per cent - are also unaware that a woman can get pregnant during her period, or if the man withdraws before ejaculation, according to the government-commissioned survey.

Popcorn + soda = 3 burgers

LOS ANGELES - MOVIEGOERS who tuck into a medium popcorn and a soft drink could be eating the equivalent of three McDonald's quarter-pounder burgers topped with a dozen scoops of butter, according to a US study.
