LONDON - PRESIDENT Barack Obama has written to International Olympic Committee members promising the United States would 'welcome the world with open arms' if Chicago is awarded the 2016 Summer Games.

 
Henin to return: Media

BRUSSELS - JUSTINE Henin is keeping silent about her future until late Tuesday despite many Belgian media outlets trumpeting the imminent return to competitive tennis for the former top-ranked player.

Henin is expected to be on the RTL evening news at 1700 GMT Tuesday with little else to address but her future, and newspapers only had one conclusion: After Kim Clijsters victorious return, Henin would do the same.

Cole starts at last for Chelsea

LONDON - JOE Cole will make his first appearance of the season when Chelsea hosts Queens Park Rangers in the League Cup on Wednesday.

The midfielder has been sidelined since January because of a ruptured knee ligament which required surgery.

Lehmann dropped over beer trip

BERLIN - STUTTGART goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has been suspended for Wednesday's German Cup match against VfB Luebeck because he attended Munich's beer festival last weekend after his side's defeat by Cologne.

The 39-year-old was suspended for the second-round match at Luebeck, and possibly this weekend's Bundesliga game at Eintracht Frankfurt, after club officials heard he attended last Saturday's festival opening without telling them.
