LONDON - WIGAN confirmed contracts with defenders Titus Bramble and Emmerson Boyce until 2012 on Tuesday, the club said.

New manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website: 'When you look at the performances of the two players over recent seasons it's a great reward from the club to offer them contract extensions.

 
Team hopeful Flintoff will play

LONDON - ENGLAND remain optimistic Andrew Flintoff will be fit enough to play in the second Test against Australia here at Lord's after the all-rounder's latest injury setback.

Fast bowler and middle-order batsman Flintoff twisted his right knee while fielding during the drawn first Test in Cardiff last week.

Singh withdraws from Open

TURNBERRY (Scotland) - ASIAN number one Jeev Milkha Singh on Tuesday withdrew from this week's British Open due to a persistent rib injury.

The Indian star has been in discomfort for several weeks with the injury but decided to leave it to the last minute at Turnberry to give himself every chance of playing the tournament for just the second time.

Hasegawa retains WBC title

KOBE (Japan) - JAPAN'S Hozumi Hasegawa defeated American challenger Nestor Rocha by a technical knockout to retain his World Boxing Council bantamweight title on Tuesday.

The knockout came just two minutes and 28 seconds into the first round.
