LONDON - MANCHESTER United striker Federico Macheda was robbed in his home over the weekend, police said Monday, in the latest of a spate of property crimes against Premiership footballers.

Thieves took money and jewellery from the 17-year-old Italian's home in Sale, near Manchester in north-west England, at 3:40 am (0240 GMT) on Sunday in an attack that also left his friend suffering minor head injuries.

 
Gymnast caught using cocaine

AMSTERDAM - DUTCH gymnast Yuri van Gelder, a former European and world champion in the rings event, has acknowledged using cocaine after he failed a drug test ahead of the Netherlands championships in Rotterdam last month.

He faces a two-year ban from the sport.

Flintoff doubtful for 2nd test

LONDON - ENGLAND all-rounder Andrew Flintoff is doubtful for the second Ashes test against Australia at Lord's starting on Thursday after suffering pain in his right knee during the drawn first Test in Cardiff.

Flintoff was included in a 14-man squad named on Monday - with pace bowler Steve Harmison the only addition - but the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement the all-rounder's place would depend on the results of a scan.

Pakistan bounce back in Test

COLOMBO - DEBUTANT Fawad Alam scored an unbeaten century as Pakistan produced a remarkable turnaround to claw their way back in the second Test against Sri Lanka on Monday.

The tourists, who were bowled out for 90 in their first innings, hit back to dismiss Sri Lanka for 240 and then cruised to 178-1 in their second knock by stumps on the second day.
