ISTANBUL - SHAKHTAR Donetsk midfielder Jadson scored in extra time on Wednesday to clinch the Uefa Cup with a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen.

The teams had drawn 1-1 through regular time at Istanbul's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium before Jadson, one of five Brazilian players in Shakhtar's lineup, hit a shot from about 12 meters in the 97th minute.

 
Olazabal, golf's hall of famer

JACKSONVILLE (Florida) - JOSE Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros, known as the 'Spanish Armada' during their indomitable partnership in the Ryder Cup, never had to exchange ideas because they thought and played so much alike.

'We were erratic off the tee, solid with irons, extremely good around the green,' Olazabal said on Wednesday. 'Whenever we had to make a decision, there was not much thinking to do, not much talking. We saw the same shot, the same flight, we had the same ideas.'

Webber worried if Ferrari quits

MONTE CARLO - AUSTRALIA'S Mark Webber joined the chorus of those calling for order in Formula One on Wednesday when he warned that the sport could be destabilised if Ferrari withdrew next year.

The Red Bull driver, who is enjoying a promising start to the season on the track, said that the off-track controversy and politics was tarnishing the sport's image - even on the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Mickleson's wife has cancer

JACKSONVILLE (Florida) - PHIL Mickelson's wife, Amy, has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and the three-time major champion says he will suspend his PGA Tour schedule indefinitely.

Mickelson's management company says Amy Mickelson will begin treatment with major surgery as early as the next two weeks.
