PORTSMOUTH - SUNDERLAND threw away the lead and lost 3-1 at Portsmouth on Monday to stay in danger of relegation from the Premier League.

Although Kenwyne Jones gave the Black Cats a 59th minute lead, John Utaka equalised a minute later. An own goal by Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley and Armand Traore's late goal confirmed Portsmouth's victory.

 
Easy win for Man U: Cantona

CANNES - FOOTBALL legend Eric Cantona, the star of a new film competing at Cannes, on Monday predicted triumph for his former team Manchester United over Barcelona in the Champions League final.

'I'll give you a straight answer,' he said when asked at a press conference here who would win on May 27. 'Manchester.'

Wilkinson joins French club

TOULON (France) - ENGLAND flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has joined Toulon from the Newcastle Falcons, the French club said on its website (www.rctoulon.com) on Monday.

Wilkinson, 29, has suffered a succession of injuries since kicking the winning drop goal for England against Australia in the 2003 World Cup final.

Ranieri sacked as Juve coach

MILAN - CLAUDIO Ranieri has been sacked as Juventus coach and Ciro Ferrara has taken over, the club said on Monday.
