YOKOHAMA - CHINA dominated the first two rounds of the world table tennis championships in Japan on Thursday.

Olympic gold medallist Ma Lin, who lost two games before beating Spain's Alfredo Carneros in the first round earlier in the day, had a better second round, beating Spaniard He Zhi Wen in five games.

 
Aussies 'favourites' for Ashes

SYDNEY - AUSTRALIA are slight favourites to retain the Ashes against England this year, former captain Steve Waugh said Thursday.

Waugh said there wasn't much to choose between the two great rivals, but Australia had the edge ahead of the July-August five-Test series in England.
