PERTH (Australia) - THE WESTERN Force stayed in finals contention by thrashing the hapless Lions 55-14 in their Super 14 clash at Subiaco Oval on Friday.

The tone for the one-sided match was set in the first minute, with the home side easily scoring the opening try as they kept up their resurgent form in recent weeks.

 
Davydenko to face Nadal

BARCELONA - THIRD-SEEDED Nikolay Davydenko rallied for a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Radek Stepanek on Friday to reach the Barcelona Open semifinals.

Davydenko recovered from early mistakes in the first set, but wasted three set points as Stepanek used crafty net play to frustrate his opponent and force the tiebreaker.
