WEMBLEY - TIM Howard stopped two penalty kicks on Sunday to give Everton a 4-2 shootout victory over Manchester United and a first FA Cup final appearance in 14 years.

The teams had drawn 0-0 through extra time at Wembley before the American goalkeeper blocked shots from Dimitar Berbatov and Rio Ferdinand to help put Everton into next month's final against Chelsea.

 
West Brom lose, on the brink

MANCHESTER - MANCHESTER City pushed West Bromwich Albion to the brink of relegation from the Premier League with a 4-2 win at Eastlands on Sunday.

Mark Hughes' side stormed into a two-goal through Robinho and Nedum Onuoha's first half strikes but Chris Brunt scored either side of the interval to haul Albion level.

Nadal wins Masters title
MONACO- RAFAEL Nadal became the first player to win five straight Monte Carlo Masters titles by beating Novak Djokovic 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 on Sunday.

The top-ranked Spaniard dropped his first set since the 2006 final against Roger Federer as the third-seeded Djokovic rallied to win the second set, pinning Nadal behind the baseline and picking him off at the net.

Tottenham beats Newcastle
TOTTENHAM Hotspur beat Newcastle United 1-0 on a first-half strike from Darren Bent, keeping the hosts in the chase for a place in European competition and putting the visitors in greater danger of relegation.

Bent scored from a rebound off Steve Harper in the 24th minute after the visitors' goalkeeper stopped his first attempt. Newcastle substitute Obafemi Martins wasted the club's best chance late in the second half.
