GENEVA - VOLLEYBALL'S governing body abandoned a rule on Thursday that limited the number of foreign players on court during club matches.

The decision is a significant one for football because it could affect Fifa's plan for a similar rule.

 
Eriksson's future on the line

MEXICO CITY - MEXICAN football directors will discuss coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's future on Friday after Wednesday's embarrassing 3-1 defeat in Honduras in a World Cup qualifier.

'He's waiting for the decision we will take at a meeting we will have with the members of the National Teams committee,' Mexican Football Federation (FMF) director Nestor de la Torre told a news conference on Thursday.

Captain Fab is back

LONDON - ARSENAL captain Cesc Fabregas is set to make his comeback after three months out injured in Saturday's Premier League match against Manchester City.

Spain's midfielder Fabregas has not played since December 21 when he sustained a knee injury in a tackle by compatriot Xabi Alonso in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Asia urged to save cricket

KARACHI - PAKISTANI captain Younus Khan Thursday urged India and other Asian cricket giants to pull together to allay security fears in the region and save the game on the sub-continent.

'Cricket hit by security fears is no longer Pakistan's problem alone...I think Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will have to unite in allaying security fears in the region,' Younus told reporters on Thursday.
