LISBON - PORTUGAL eased to a 2-0 victory over World Cup hosts South Africa in a one-sided friendly in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday.

Portugal wasted a host of chances in a 0-0 home draw against Sweden in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday, a result which left them facing an uphill struggle to catch group leaders Denmark and Hungary.

Yacht hit rock in China

MADRID - SPANISH team Telefonica Blue has complained to the organisers of the Volvo Ocean Race after the yacht hit a rock in China at the start of the fifth leg of the round-the-world event.

The incident occurred just outside Qingdao harbour shortly after the boat left on February 14 for Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, breaking its keel and leading to a delay of 19 hours, the team said on Tuesday.

Scots hope for McManus

LUSS (Scotland) - SCOTLAND boss George Burley will make last-minute decisions on whether to draft Celtic captain Stephen McManus and Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon into his starting XI for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Iceland.
