LONDON - LIVERPOOL'S American co-owner Tom Hicks said on Thursday he never doubted that manager Rafael Benitez would stay at the club.

Benitez signed a new deal through to 2014 on Wednesday, ending months of speculation over his Anfield future.

 
Sorenstam pregnant, 1st child

ORLANDO (Florida) - NOT long after stepping away from golf, Annika Sorenstam is stepping into motherhood.

Sorenstam announced on her blog on Thursday that she and her husband, Mike McGee, are expecting their first child this fall.

Chapchai sets 36-hole record

NEW DELHI - THAILAND'S Chapchai Nirat set a 36-hole scoring record on the Asian Tour Thursday when he fired a second successive 10-under-par 62 for a four-shot lead at the SAIL Open.

The big-hitting Chapchai maintained his dazzling form at the Classic Golf Resort to head the field with a 20-under-par 124 aggregate after two rounds, bettering the previous 36-hole record by three strokes.

Hull manager Brown fined

LONDON - HULL manager Phil Brown was fined and given a warning by the Football Association on Thursday over his angry confrontation with Newcastle's Joe Kinnear.

The rival managers were sent to the stands by referee Phil Dowd during the Jan. 14 game won 1-0 by Hull at Newcastle's St. James' Park.
