DURBAN (South Africa) - AUSTRALIA clinched a series win over South Africa and remained top of the world rankings after completing a crushing 175-run victory on the fifth and final day of the second test on Tuesday.

South Africa resumed on 244 for two, chasing an improbable victory target of 546 to square the series 1-1, and quickly lost Jacques Kallis for 93 when paceman Mitchell Johnson found the edge with the new ball and slip Ricky Ponting took the catch.

 
Peel to miss Six Nations

CARDIFF - WALES scrum-half Dwayne Peel was ruled out of the remainder of the Six Nations with a torn hamstring on Tuesday.

Peel will be replaced in the starting side to play Italy in Rome on Saturday by the Ospreys Mike Phillips, with London Irish No 9 Warren Fury coming on to the bench as cover.

Ferdinand to play for ManU

MANCHESTER - ENGLAND defender Rio Ferdinand will play for Manchester United in their Champions League clash with Inter Milan at Old Trafford here Wednesday, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said.

The centre-back had been doubtful for the second leg of the holders' last 16 clash against the Italian giants, goalless after the opening leg in Milan, having limped out of Saturday's FA Cup win against Fulham with an ankle injury.
