PARIS - FORMER world number one Amelie Mauresmo led a chorus of condemnation after Israel's Shahar Peer was controversially denied a visa to take part in the two-million-dollar WTA tournament in Dubai.

Peer, the world number 48, was told she was not welcome in the UAE, despite having played in the Qatar Open in neighbouring Doha in 2008, a move considered both a sporting and diplomatic success.

MILAN - INJURY-plagued AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta will undergo another back operation on Tuesday to try to save his career.

Fergie eyes 5 trophies

DERBY - SIR Alex Ferguson insisted that his quest for five trophies is not an impossible dream after Manchester United remained on course for an unprecedented haul of silverware by beating Derby 4-1 in the FA Cup fifth round.

Having already claimed the Club World Cup and a place in the League Cup final against Tottenham next month, United can extend their advantage at the head of the Premier League to five points with victory over Fulham on Wednesday.

Difficult to return to Galaxy

MILAN - DAVID Beckham said on Sunday it would be difficult for him to return to Los Angeles Galaxy if his permanent move to AC Milan does not materialise.

The England midfielder, on a two-month loan at Milan, wants to stay in Italy but Galaxy said on Friday that he must go back to Los Angeles after a Major League Soccer deadline to complete the transfer passed.
