MELBOURNE (Australia) - TOP-ranked Jelena Jankovic was ousted in the fourth round Sunday and No. 3 Dinara Safina was twice just a point away from following her out of the Australian Open.

In back-to-back matches on Rod Laver Arena, Frenchwomen took it to the top seeds. Jankovic failed against No. 16 Marion Bartoli.

 
Roddick blasts into q-finals

MELBOURNE - AMERICAN Andy Roddick beat Tommy Robredo 7-5 6-1 6-3 in the fourth round of the Australian Open on Sunday, extending his perfect record against the Spaniard to 10 matches.

I'm stupid: Safina

MELBOURNE - DINARA Safina called herself stupid and suggested someone should 'smack me in the head' after she clawed her way past Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and into Australian Open quarter-finals on Sunday.

Stricker storms to 3-shot lead

LA QUINTA (California) - AMERICAN Steve Stricker birdied six of the last seven holes on his way to a sizzling bogey-free 10-under 62 and a three-shot lead after four rounds of the Bob Hope Classic on Saturday.

Stricker, who shot a third round 61 on Friday, got his day off to a quiet start by opening with four pars at the Nicklaus Private course, one of four venues hosting this week's 90-hole pro-am.
