Real Madrid fires Schuster

MADRID - REAL Madrid has fired Bernd Schuster two days after the German coach said it would be 'impossible' for the two-time defending Spanish champion to win against Barcelona next Saturday.

Former Tottenham and Sevilla coach Juande Ramos will immediately replace the 49-year-old Schuster, who was let go only six months after guiding the Spanish powerhouse to its record 31st league title.

 
IOC to retest 500 samples

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) - SOME 500 doping samples from the Beijing Olympics will be retested in January, the IOC said on Tuesday.

About 400 blood tests searching for the illegal use of CERA, a new version of the endurance-enhancing hormone EPO, will be conducted at World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratories in Paris and Lausanne, Switzerland.

Choi is Asian Tour member

US PGA Tour regular K.J. Choi has joined Vijay Singh as an honorary member of the Asian Tour.

Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla Han said Choi was an inspiration to many players as he had honed his game in Asia.

36 gave false ages

BEIJING - A CRACKDOWN on 'age shaving' has found 36 players in China's professional basketball league were older than they originally stated, the official basketball association announced on Tuesday.

No individual players were named in a report on results of a recent investigation published in the Sports Ministry's official newspaper, China Sports Daily.
