IT WAS an evening to remember for Formula One's first night race. At London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday, the Singapore Grand Prix captured the Pioneering and Innovation Award at the Autosport Awards.

The awards, handed out by motor racing magazine Autosport since 1982, is widely regarded as being second only to the International Automobile Federation (FIA) awards in terms of prestige.

 
Ferrari speeds up cost-cutting

MILAN - FORMULA One team Ferrari is planning to accelerate its cost-cutting plans for 2009 in the wake of Honda's pullout from the sport.

'This process had already begun over the last few years. But now it's going to have a sharp acceleration,' team director Stefano Domenicali said in an interview with Corriere della Sera on Monday without providing further financial details.

Liu could be back in 6 mths

BEIJING - CHINA'S 110m hurdles world champion Liu Xiang could be back on the running track in May after successful foot surgery in the United States, local media reported on Monday.

The 2004 Olympic gold medallist, who was robbed of the chance of defending his title in Beijing in August by injury, underwent a three-hour operation on his damaged right Achilles' tendon in Houston last Friday.

Ogilvy urges to chase Tiger
