LONDON - MANCHESTER United defender Patrice Evra was on Friday banned for four matches and fined 15,000 pounds (S$33,529) for his part in an ugly post-match brawl at bitter rivals Chelsea last season.

The Frenchman was ruled by the Football Association (FA) to have attacked Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell at Stamford Bridge after April's game.

 
Ronaldo considered Arsenal

PARIS - CRISTIANO Ronaldo said he came 'within an inch' of joining Arsenal before Manchester United came up with a much better offer.

Speaking in an interview with France Football magazine published Friday, the Portugal winger said he was approached by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in 2003.

'Milan's attack off balance'

MILAN - RONALDINHO'S arrival has thrown AC Milan's attack off balance, Kaka indicated on Friday as he analysed the Rossoneri's two-game losing streak.

Kaka said Ronaldinho 'has given a big hand' to Milan by scoring goals, but added that the team 'was used to playing with one forward, nearly always Pippo (Filippo Inzaghi), with me and Clarence (Seedorf) just behind.'

Scolari warns Inter off Essien

COBHAM (England) - LUIZ Felipe Scolari has warned Jose Mourinho to forget about signing Michael Essien as the Chelsea midfielder bids to return from a knee injury ahead of schedule.

Inter Milan star Sulley Muntari, who plays under former Chelsea boss Mourinho at the San Siro, this week claimed that his Ghana team-mate Essien would be an ideal addition to the Serie A club.
