LIVERPOOL - LIVERPOOL could face a legal battle with the city's council as a row over the club's famous Liver Bird badge continues to ruffle feathers at Anfield.

The Premier League team's shirt features the mythical Liver Bird on its badge and Liverpool officials have applied to the UK Intellectual Property Office to register the image in an attempt to stop street traders selling counterfeit merchandise bearing the emblem.

 
Price increase unfair: Utd fans

LONDON - MANCHESTER United fans called for an official investigation on Wednesday into ticket prices increases since the Premier League club was bought by American businessman Malcolm Glazer in 2005.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust, which opposed the takeover as Shareholders United and represents 34,000 fans, filed a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading.

Diarra boost for Pompey

PORTSMOUTH - PORTSMOUTH midfielder Lassana Diarra has given the Premier League club a boost after his ankle injury proved to be less serious than first feared.

Diarra had been expected to be sidelined for three weeks after limping off during his team's goalless draw at West Ham on Saturday.

Crespo to join Real Madrid?

MILAN - HERNAN Crespo is apparently interested in joining Real Madrid as a replacement for injured striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Crespo's agent Fernando Hidalgo had a meeting scheduled on Wednesday with Real Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported.
