PARIS - AS THE curtains came down on the 48th International Paris Airshow on Sunday, all eyes turned to Singapore, the host of the next global airshow.

To be held from Feb 2 to 7, it will be used by the industry as an indicator of the recovery of the global economy.

Aviation industry players at the Paris show already indicated that their expectations for the worst were over and expressed optimism that the market would rebound by next year.

The managing director of Singapore Airshow & Events, Mr Jimmy Lau, is determined that the show here would deliver on the industry's expectations.

'Our customers have indicated that we are high on their list of priorities and are the best platform for a showcase in the Asia-Pacific. We want to deliver that,' he said.

Ninety per cent of the show space has been taken, and a further 5 per cent was booked at the Paris show.

To rev up the attractiveness of the show, trade visitors can can expect new displays and forums during the week-long event.

In collaboration with the International Air Transport Association, which represents 230 carriers, the Singapore Airshow will have a 'Green Pavilion' highlighting airlines' eco-friendly practices.

Business forums will be held to explain the ins and outs of doing business in the Middle East, China and India, South-east Asia and Australia.

New attractions are being lined up for members of the public attending the show too.
